PURPOSE

The purpose of this Appendix is to describe the insulation work

2. DRAWINGS

Insulation shall be carried out according to the Purchaser's drawings and specifications

Certain manufacture's drawings may demand a specific method for the installation of the insulation.  Those drawings will have

priority over standards.

3. SCOPE OF WORK

The Works shall be performed by the Contractor.

The extent of the Insulation, if refractory work or concrete work in the tank and piping section mention in the suppliers

Drawings and Specifications will be valid.

3.1 Contractor shall manage and keep insulation board into container or indoor storage.

4. MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP

All flange and valves shall be insulated if not otherwise specified (When a flange joint, valve etc. is specified not to be

insulated). The adjoining pipe insulation shall be closed with end sleeves at such a distance from the flanges that the removal of

the screws does not damage the insulation.

4.1 The cover for flanges, valves, blind flanges and manholes etc, shall be of removable type with quick release toggle

grips. These removable covers shall be made from metal sheets, lined with rigid insulation slabs or matting with wire netting

facing fastened to the inside of the metal cover. Covers for instrument parts shall be furnished with quick release toggle grips, all

other covers can be secured with self-tapping screws.

The insulation of covers shall extend over the adjoining pipe insulation for distance of at least the pipe insulation thickness, but

never less than 2 inch.

4.2 The thickness of insulation for fittings, flanges, valves etc. shall be the same as for the adjacent pipe insulation.

4.3 The upper part of the packing gland of valves shall be kept outside the insulation cover unless specified.
4.4 The insulation shall allow free movement of pipes on the supports.

4.5 The insulation must not be made before pressure and other necessary tests have been made. The name plates and

inspection marks shall not be covered or made by removable covers which request by purchaser.

4.6 The surface to be insulated must be clean and dry before starting the insulation work.

4.7 Welding at site by the insulation Contractor to any equipment or piping already pressure-tested and accepted is not

allowed.

4.8 The insulation is to be made in such a way that there will be no openings or gaps in the joints and that the smoothest

possible insulation is achieved. Longitudinal joints in horizontal pipe insulation shall be at the lower half to avoid water or liquids

get in to insulation. When there are several layers of insulation, the joints must be staggered.

4.9 The insulation material for stainless steel piping must be free of chlorides.

4.10 The insulation of pipes and tanks must be prevented from sagging or shifting by use of distance rings. Vertical

insulation shall be fixed with studs at a distance of 1.5 to 1.8 m.

5. STANDARDS

If not otherwise stated in the drawings, the guide lines of standard attached shall be followed.

6. MATERIAL PURCHASE AND SUPPLY

All materials are included in the Contractor's delivery and needed for the insulation work shall be purchased and supplied by the

Contractor as e.g. mineral wool, metal claddings, wire nets, support rings and clips etc. To be confirm before finalize the

contract.
