Cables shall be installed in underground pipes at all road crossings with each circuit separate. Such pipes shall be supplied and laid by the Contractor. Existing spare pipes or ducts, if available, may be used only with the permission of the Project Manager.
The Contractor shall be responsible for removing and replacing the trench covers free of charge dur¬ing the execution of the work.
The chosen manner of laying, e.g. in earth, in ducts or in trenches, shall be described exactly or shall be presented with the aid of sketches in the bid.
Excavations for road crossings shall be carried out on only half of the carriageway at a time. Where asphalt surfaces are broken, the Contractor shall be responsible for topping and reinstatement of the surfaces to the equivalent original condition.
The cable-laying Contractor shall coordinate, if required, all his work for road crossings with the rele¬vant road constructor. The costs for complete reinstatement works after the crossing of roads are to be borne by the Contractor in the contract rates.
13,2.2.9  Cables Supported on Racks, Trays, Steel Work
The Contractor shall supply all racks, trays and supporting steelwork for the cables supplied and in¬stalled under this contract.
All cables shall be run with particular regard to neatness and order. Multiple runs shall be marshalled
so that cables entering or leaving the run do so in an orderly and logical manner. :
When cables are laid on cable racks of concrete, which shall be installed to allow space for ventilation, two circuits shall be placed on one cable rack of U form. Cable racks arranged one above the other shall be at least 300 mm apart.
If the cables are arranged on horizontal brackets, they shall be clamped at least every 750 mm and at least every 1500 mm for a vertical arrangement. -
Non-magnetic clamps must be used for this purpose to brace the cables against dynamic impulse forces during short-circuits.
The spacing of cable-supporting steelwork shall be to the approval of the Project Manager. Every non-flexible cable shall be securely supported at a point not more than 1000 mm from its terminal gland to prevent stressing of the terminal, and on vertical runs passing through floors the cable shall be sup¬ported immediately above the floor.
Wherever cables are installed and. exposed to direct solar radiation, sun shields of approved material and design shall be applied and installed.
All ferrous parts such as ladders, cable-supporting structures, brackets shall be hot- dipped galvanized or suitably anti-rust painted, as directed by and to the satisfaction of the Project Manager.
The Contractor shall supply, as and where required, ali materials necessary for jointing and termina¬tion of cables, including cast resin cones, as well as all tapes, papers, plumbing material, solder and other consumable materials and shall carry out all work necessary for the proper jointing and sealing of ali cables installed under this contract.
Cable straight and insulating joints shall be identical, except the straight joints shall have suitable sheath continuity connections.
The Contractor shall be held responsible for checking his jointing and termination work and for com¬missioning into service the completed cable installation.
The method of stripping the sheath, filler and insulation of all cables shall be subject to the approval of the Project Manager.
The Contractor shall be responsible for the correct phase connections of the cables. Site tests shall be carried out by the Project Manager or his Supervision staff and if faults are found the Contractor shall carry out any rectification work at the Contractor's cost. Where insulated glands are provided the Con¬tractor shall ensure that the insulation is maintained after the cables have been jointed and shall, if re¬quired, demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Project Manager.
